Microsoft gave the world plenty of notice when they finally quit offering support for Windows XP. Some organizations, like the U.S. Navy, still weren’t ready to let go and now they’re paying for it. Literally.
Over on defense.gov, you can even see just how much they’re paying for it. Spoiler alert: it’s just over $9.1 million. The agreement with Microsoft actually covers a bunch of outdated software. In addition to Windows XP, the Navy is still clinging to Office 2003, Windows Server 2003, and Exchange 2003.
