Microsoft Lays-Off 7,800 Staff

Microsoft is reducing its staff in the mobile department. The company announced plans to layoff around 7,800 positions globally . All part of a larger plan to “restructure the company’s phone hardware business to better focus and align resources.”  It seems the primary jobs being affected by this decision is in the company’s mobile department, but it’s uncertain if other branches of Microsoft will be affected in the restructuring.
The decision was made after the acquisition of Nokia’s phone business last year, which was purchased by Microsoft to the tune of $7.1 billion. As a result of the layoffs, Microsoft will be able to write down a large portion of its value to the tune of $7.6 billion.
