Check out cooling off in the largest swimming pool in the world. You'll have to catch a flight to Chile in order to experience the pool at the San Alfonso del Mar resort, but once you're there you can indulge in kayaking, wind surfing and even SCUBA diving. No underwater tennis, though. The pool measures 1,013m (3,323ft) long and, at its maximum depth, reaches 3.5m (11.5ft). The total size of the giant tank is an amazing 19.77 acres, the size of 11 football pitches. This technology is enough to win its place in Guinness World Record for Earth's largest swimming pool.
It was built by Fernando Fischmann, chairman and founder of Crystal Lagoons. The entire construction took five years and cost £2million. Fischmann, who started out as a biochemist, developed a computer-controlled suction and filtration system that collects and filters water from the ocean before pumping it into the massive pool.
The technology carries a worldwide patent and the sun's energy heats the water up to a comfortable 26C - nine degrees higher than the surrounding sea.
